  1990: the birth of search engines

The first network search engines for the web in December 1990: WHOIS user searches date from 1982 [5] and multi-network user searches by Know service robots first appeared in 1989. In the summer of 1993 there was no search engine on the Internet, although many different catalogs were managed manually. In 1996, Robin Li developed the RanDex website ranking algorithm to rank search engine results pages [20][21][22] and received a US patent for the technology.[23] It was the first search engine to use hyperlink indexing to measure website quality [24] before Google filed a highly functional patent on the algorithm two years later in 1998. Bias
